Open Evening & Tours

Our open evening is a one-off event that enables parents to visit the school, understand our values and curriculum structure and how we enrich children outside of the classroom.  You will hear from our current students, as well as an opportunity to take and attend a fully guided tour.

Book a guided tour as a small group at various times in October! These are held with the Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher.  Learn about and view the school while it is fully operational and meet some of our wonderful students in their engaging lessons.

Taster Sessions and CSI day

From April until October we host a range of Taster sessions for you to book your child onto.  Meet new friends, get to know our teachers and feel what it is like to be a student at Ixworth High School.

Y5 Taster sessions run during the summer term with Y6 Tasters starting in September and running through to October.

Transition

Should your child be fortunate enough to be allocated a place in our new Y7 cohort, you will receive details from the school regarding the Transition process.  Students will be invited to two full days at Ixworth High School.  These days enable students to develop an understanding of expectations, make new friends and get to know our wonderful staff team.

In addition to this, you will also be invited to our 'Meet the Tutor' evening.  This enables the newest members of our community to get to know their tutor and tutor groups much more closely while parent/carers are introduced the details of the school, expectations and support.

All three of these events enable our students to start school with confidence.

Settling in

Transition does not end once you arrive at Ixworth, our first half term also includes a settling in evening.  This event enables parents to meet with their childs tutor to see how well they have transitioned into the school.  There is also a raft of class work for students to walk their parents through.

Students are very excited to showcase the strong academic and Enrichment opportunities on offer at Ixworth, giving parents a real feel for the provision, expectations and progress we hope to achieve with their child.  We highly recommend that parents book a time slot with their tutor as well as spending time looking at the wonderful work our students are producing across the school.

Constant contact between school and home is achieved through Tutor emails and communications, we send a welcome email and a end of term one to parents to include them in the accomplishments of students in the school.  Our weekly bulletin also shares a raft of information for our parents including key dates and events that are not to be missed!

Apply For A Place With Us in Year 7

A student’s first week at Ixworth High School will begin with a welcome day, where they will work with the Head of Lower School, their Tutor team, teachers, and other staff to ensure they quickly feel like a member of Ixworth High School. Students will cover all aspects from how the School day runs, meeting key staff, as well as Enrichment and the lessons themselves. It is always a wonderful start to life at Ixworth High School for the new Y7 students.

Our SENDCO Mrs Boothe has a vast amount of experience in the role of Transition, and brings great skills and dedication to ensuring that every single new student with SEND is settled on their first day at Ixworth High School by working with students, parents, primary schools and staff at Ixworth High School throughout the whole process.

Many students do not come to Ixworth High School from a local primary school, and the inclusion team work hard to ensure that these students are just as confident and feel as important as every other student making the transition to Ixworth High School.

The majority of students find the whole process of transition exciting and fulfilling, but some students are always more worried than others. As well as the huge team of staff on hand to support the students, every student will complete and own a Personal Education Plan (PEP), which they will co-write with their Form Tutor. The PEP will then be developed throughout the student’s time at School; reflecting and reporting on their educational journey.

Personal Goals

Students are given the opportunity to share their individual strengths and interests to assist teachers in the planning of personally relevant lessons. They are guided in the exploration of personal life goals with a focus on how schooling can help them be reached.

Barriers to Learning

The tutor will collect information from the Inclusion register to create a full picture of the individual.

Teaching Strategies

The Inclusion Leader will liaise with parents/carers and external professionals to explore any essential teaching strategies to support individuals’ needs.

Resources

If a student requires a specific resource in order to access learning it will be outlined in their PEP.

School and External Provision / Intervention

All teaching staff are responsible for the recording of interventions and any external provision they are aware the student receives.

Statements of Special Educational Needs

PEPs will also be the format used to monitor progress towards meeting objectives as identified in Statements.

Parental Involvement

We appreciate that parents/carers have a wealth of information on their children that can positively inform our practice. PEPs are shared with parents / carers who are invited to regularly discuss them with tutors, teachers and the SENDCO. This will form a part of the formal reporting cycle. Transition to Ixworth High School is an overwhelmingly positive experience and we will work with each and every individual student and their family to ensure that we meet their hopes and their expectations.
