School History

A brief history of Ixworth High School

Ixworth High School was created on the site of the former Middle school, opening its doors in 2014 for year groups 7-9. Over the next two years it expanded to Y10 and 11.  It is a state school set up by teachers, families, the Seckford Foundation and other members of the community who were determined to make a positive difference to the educational landscape. While no longer part of the Seckford Foundation, the Sapientia Trust embodies the core values of the school which continues to be a popular local choice for many students and their families.

The buildings on site are mainly the remnants of the schools time as a middle school, opened in 1957 and closed as a result of the shift in government policy to move away from a middle school system.

The School is located in the picturesque village of Ixworth, 6 miles outside of the beautiful Bury St Edmunds.  The school site enjoys views over the rolling countryside with easy access to major routes including the A14.

Since its creation, Ixworth High School has more than doubled in size, enjoying the privileged position of being oversubscribed in most year groups.  The school, which is now at capacity, is looking forwards to further developments as it aims to become a leading school in the county.
