Curriculum Model
The curriculum at Ixworth High School is a knowledge-based and vocabulary rich model. Our students undertake a wide range of subjects throughout a three year Key stage 3. We ensure that our students receive a rich experience studying many subjects in both academic and creative areas, this is further combined with an extensive and bespoke enrichment package which is built into our Key Stage 3 provision. Consequently, our students become confident and rounded individuals as they move through the school and onto post-16 experiences.
The Ixworth curriculum is sequenced to ensure complex schemata are built from the knowledge, concepts and skills developed within it. These are regularly revisited throughout a student’s five-year journey with us as explicit and implicit links are made in each subject and across them. Rich, cultural opportunities and experiences are woven in alongside a diverse enrichment programme, thus enabling students to contribute positively to society upon completion of their studies. The curriculum in Key stage 3 therefore provides the contextual knowledge and skills which enable all our students to succeed at GCSE level, opening doors for their future life and careers. Year 9, focuses students on the transition to GCSE study with a full programme in place to support them as they make their choices, culminating in students starting their options at the end of the academic year.
The Ixworth Key Stage 4 curriculum provides students with a broad range of subjects, enabling them to tailor their choices in order to meet their identified career aspirations. Underpinning all areas of the curriculum, is a whole school literacy focus which is nuanced in each subject where varying levels of Reading, writing and oracy take place, therefore, embedding literacy fully into the teaching and learning taking place.
The Ixworth curriculum gives our students a well- rounded education, which will prepare our students for life.
