Ethos
Our Ethos:
We have 6Cs that form our ethos at Ixworth, these are:
Co-operation
At our school, we believe that teamwork is key to achieving our shared goals, and we encourage everyone to support one another in reaching their individual aspirations. Our staff are dedicated to raising ambitions, significantly boosting progress and achievement for all students. We also collaborate closely with primary schools and further education providers to ensure a smooth transition for students as they join or move on from our school.
We strongly believe that parental involvement is crucial to delivering a successful education. We are committed to building a positive home-school partnership, providing regular reports so that parents and carers can stay informed about their child's progress throughout their time at our school.
Commitment
Our students develop a Personal Education Plan (PEP) with their tutor at the start of each academic year. During this process they set out their own personal, academic and career goals and are expected to commit wholeheartedly to the realisation of them. Progress is regularly monitored and where necessary interventions are put in place by our staff to address any underachievement.
Teachers and other support staff at Ixworth are committed to achieving the very best outcomes for students regardless of ability or need.
Confidence
At Ixworth, we believe that confidence is a vital skill for future success, so we make it a priority to nurture it in every student. Our teachers create many opportunities, both in the classroom and through extracurricular activities, for students to take control of their own learning. We encourage our students to confidently ask questions and address anything that may stand in the way of reaching their goals. When students believe in themselves, they are empowered to achieve their dreams.
Community
We encourage our students to develop a strong sense of community, both within our school and on local, regional, national, and international levels. We ask them to reflect on how they can contribute positively to these communities.
The success of our students relies heavily on our pastoral care systems and the strong relationships between all members of our school community. Students participate in weekly assemblies and various whole-school activities throughout the year. We place a strong emphasis on the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our students.
Challenge
We set high expectations for both aspirations and achievement, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed. Our school is fully inclusive, promoting healthy competition and encouraging students to tackle challenges with a positive mindset as they work towards their personal goals. We expect students to support one another through a positive attitude to learning, which benefits everyone’s progress.
Our curriculum is traditional, broad, and balanced, covering both academic and creative subjects. We prioritise English, Maths, and Science by allocating extra time to these core areas. At Key Stage 3, we offer enrichment activities, and all subjects contribute to developing numeracy, literacy, and ICT skills. We believe that our curriculum equips students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed after they leave our school.
Celebration
At Ixworth, we make it a priority to acknowledge the progress and achievements of both students and staff, whether in or out of school. We offer numerous opportunities for our students to celebrate their successes throughout their time with us. We also warmly invite students' families and the wider community to join in these celebrations.
